The Professional Mixing Process
Vocal Mixing
Detailed vocal processing including EQ, compression, de-essing, saturation, reverb and delay — tailored to the specific character of the lead vocal and the genre it is sitting in.
EQ & Dynamics
Careful frequency management across all elements of the mix to ensure clarity, separation and balance. Compression is applied to control dynamics and add punch where needed.
Stereo Imaging
Width and depth are managed to create an immersive stereo image that translates well across headphones, speakers and car stereos.
Effects & Automation
Reverb, delay, modulation and spatial effects are used to place elements in the mix. Volume and effects automation give the track movement and energy.
Mastering for Streaming
The master is optimised to the loudness standards required by Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other major platforms — so your track sounds its best wherever it is played.
Remote File Delivery
Final files are delivered in the agreed format (WAV, MP3) ready for upload to your distributor. Remote delivery available across Australia via file transfer.
How to Prepare Your Files for a Professional Mix
Following these steps will ensure the mixing engineer receives clean, well-organised files and can start work without delays.
Export All Stems as Individual WAV Files
Export every track in your project as a separate WAV file at the original sample rate and bit depth (e.g. 44.1 kHz / 24-bit). Each file should start at bar 1, beat 1 so that everything lines up correctly in the new session.
Label Files Clearly
Name each file so the engineer knows what it is — for example: Lead Vocal, Harmony 1, Kick, Snare, Bass, Synth Lead, Dhol, Tabla. Clear labelling speeds up the mix and reduces errors.
Remove Master Bus Limiting
Before exporting, remove any limiter, compressor or maximiser from your master bus. The files should have headroom — ideally peaking no higher than -6 dBFS. This gives the mixing engineer full dynamic range to work with.
Include a Reference Track
Send a reference track or two — a professionally mixed song in a similar style — so the engineer understands the sonic target you are aiming for.
Send Your Files and Brief
Send your files via file transfer (Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer or similar) along with a brief note about the genre, the vibe of the track and any specific requests. Contact the studio to get started →
